Making a scarecrow step by step:

  • Look for the straw or dried grass. You will need it for the head and for the body.

  • Take the old pillowcase and make a knot on one of the sides as in the picture below.

  • Fill the pillowcase with the straw to make the head of the scarecrow. When finished, make another knot at the other side of the pillowcase.

  • Cut some fabric you have not used from the pillowcase to make the ears and fill in them with straw too.

  • Sew the ears onto the head of the scarecrow.

  • Sew the buttons to make the eyes and draw the mouth and the nose of the face sewing it with cotton thread or wool.

  • Add the hair with some wool, creating the shape you would like it to have.

  • Once you have added the hair, sew the hat onto the head.

  • Sew the dress (or the shirt and trousers) and the face created with the pillowcase in order to have the head and the body together, ready to fill it in with the straw as in the picture below.

  • Fill in a big bag with straw to build the body of the scarecrow. Make a knot when you’ll finish.

  • Hit your bigger stake into the soil with the help of a hammer in the place you would like your scarecrow to be.

  • Once the stake is placed, you can either start placing the head or placing the bag filled with the straw for the body.

  • Tie all pieces together with the help of the rope as in the pictures below.

  • Make a cross with the other stake and add it to the biggest one with the help of a nail.

  • Fill in the clothes with more straw or dried grass as in the picture.
