DIY (for kids). Making puppets with wooden spoons

Hello everybody:

In one of the last confinements, we set about making puppets with balloons and papier mâché, but when we had already made some heads, we realised that the puppets were going to be too delicate for the age of our children (3 and 1 year old now) because even if the layer of papier mâché was thick, it can always end up sinking.

So we set about imagining other forms of puppets and, by diving through Instagram and search engines, we came across these beautiful wooden spoons painted as if they were characters in Frankie Magazine. We had several wooden spoons at home without varnish and we thought it was a good idea to play with them, because they are made of a resistant material and because even children, depending on their age, can participate in the activity and paint the spoons.

And that's what we did, we got out the coloured markers, the spoons we had, and we started colouring, inspired by the characters above.

The kids loved them and we have been using them for puppet shows ever since. It's an activity that we all enjoy, even if Léa is still too young to attend the show without getting up several times. We laugh a lot making up stories together (Sacha also makes them up) and they help us to improve our vocabulary, in French, English and Spanish.

Around here we have been having cloudy skies for several days now, raining little but often, with humidity outside, and whenever we spend time indoors because the weather is not with us, the puppets are used to spend a good part of the rainy afternoons.
